Tutorial to Configure Your Belkin N300 Router for a PPTP VPN Connection

The N300 router from Belkin can be configured for a PPTP VPN connection, for which you need to follow certain steps. Guide to setup your router for a PPTP connection is given in the steps as below:

  • To start with the process, open the configuration panel of your router and then find the option named ‘Internet WAN’ from the menu on the left side of the page.
  • Under the ‘Internet WAN’ option, you need to select the ‘PPTP’ as the type of the connection and then proceed to the next step.
  • Here, you will see a small form, where you need to fill in the values according to your VPN service provider.
  • The first field is labeled as ‘PPTP Account’, where you need to fill in the username of the VPN service that you have subscribed to.
  • In the next field labeled as ‘PPTP Password’, you must fill in the value of the VPN service password, which you have subscribed to and are willing to use with this connection. You will have to type the password again in the next field, which is necessary to make sure that you have entered the correct password.
  • Next field named as ‘Host Name’ needs to be left blank, as it is, while you should enter the IP address of the VPN server that you wish to connect to, in the next field ‘Service Address’. You can get the value of the IP address from the welcome mail that your VPN service provider might have sent you after registration or you can get the same by logging in to your customer area.
  • In the field labeled as ‘IP Address Assignment’ you need to select the value “Get Dynamically form ISP”, which will be available in the drop down menu.
  • The next field, ‘Connection ID’ is an optional one, which you can leave blank and proceed to the next step for configuring your Belkin router.
  • Next is the option named ‘Disconnect after’, which is essential, if you want to get the connection interrupted and automatically disconnected after a specific period of time. You can enable this by marking the checkbox for the option, otherwise leave it unchecked and continue to the next step.
  • Next, you will be able to see a link related to the DNS settings of the router, which you should click on to access the related fields. Here, you need to type in the values for ‘Primary DNS’ and ‘Secondary DNS’, which you can get from your VPN provider.
  • Now, move to the menu options available on the left-side of the screen and select the ‘Firewall’ option. Check to see the status of the firewall of the router and disable it, if enabled.
  • Return back to the ‘PPTP’ settings option and then click on the ‘Apply Settings’ button at the page’s bottom to save the settings and use the router with the PPTP VPN connection.

Thus, with the help of above guide, you are now able to configure your Belkin n300 router to be used with a PPTP VPN connection.
